Cedar is considered a fantastic option if you are considering a garden structure such as a pergola or gazebo or even for your outdoor deck.  There are a number of reasons why Cedar is so popular and these include the fact that this particular wood variety has only two types of cells and doesn´t have  very many water conducting vessels, so it will stay dry in wet conditions far more easily that other types of conifer plants and trees.

Even in their natural habitat the Cedar tree will experience a vast range of climatic conditions from snow to drought and temperatures ranging from below 25 degrees celcius to much more moderate climates.  In addition to having the looks and also smelling amazing whilst being crafted, it is considered the go to material when it comes to outdoor furniture as it has a natural resistance to decay.

Cedar produces natural oils and resins that can protect it from various pests and decay, but will still age gracefully to a wonderful silver grey if left natural.  Due to its beautiful color, it is often varnished or stained every alternate year to keep its vibrant color alive.

In addition to all of the above, it also has a low density, so in the process of equalising with the atmosphere around it, it is less likely to crack or warp and as it contains small air pockets in its base structure, it also doesn´t conduct heat in the same manner as other wood varieties making it much cooler to sit on and relax on that other types of wood.

By far the most popular Cedar has to be Western Red Cedar which is found in an almost terracotta color.  It is an excellent rating for slow burning and is considered the ideal wood type for both indoor and outdoor as well as wood panels and furniture.
